The California Water Data Consortium has launched a new survey to better understand how groundwater is accounted for across California.
Accurate and consistent water accounting is more important than ever. The results of this survey will help water managers understand how their accounting approaches align or differ with those of other basins and support the development of locally appropriate best practices. Results will also inform a report on modernizing water accounting, developed in collaboration with the Public Policy Institute of California and UC Davis.
The survey will be re-administered periodically to track trends and developments over time. Summarized and anonymized results will be published to facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-basin learning.
The survey targets groundwater managers, consultants, and technical staff who can speak to how groundwater is tracked within a specific groundwater sustainability agency (GSA), basin, or sub-basin. We want to hear from basins at every priority level – High, Medium, Low, and Very Low – as well as adjudicated basins.
Please complete the survey by September 11.
Survey respondents will remain anonymous. Any personally identifying information will be visible only to the research team for follow-up purposes and all data will be analyzed without reference to personally identifying information.
