Statement from the Department of Water Resources:
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) appreciates the careful and thorough review conducted by the Delta Stewardship Council regarding appeals of the Delta Conveyance Project’s Certification of Consistency with the Delta Plan.
The Council’s determination affirms the strength of the extensive evidentiary record supporting the project’s consistency with the Delta Plan. As DWR anticipated, the Council dismissed or denied the vast majority of the appeals. Today’s Council determination is an important step forward for the project in completing the Delta Plan Consistency process.
For two policy areas, the Council directed a limited remand to DWR for further clarification. Remands are a standard part of the Delta Plan’s Certification of Consistency and appeals process and provide an opportunity to supplement or clarify portions of the record.
DWR will work promptly to address the Council’s direction and resubmit the relevant materials.
As described in the Certification of Consistency, the Delta Conveyance Project was developed to align with the Delta Plan’s policies and the state’s coequal goals of improving water supply reliability while protecting, restoring and enhancing the Delta ecosystem.
