NOTICE: Curtailments in Effect for all Water Rights in Scott River Watershed

From the State Water Resources Control Board:

To: All Scott River Watershed Water Right Holders

This email serves as notice and a reminder of the status and conditions of curtailment in the Scott River watershed.  Surface water rights are fully curtailed.  Overlying and adjudicated groundwater rights are conditionally curtailed such that groundwater diversions are only permitted when the minimum flow requirement is met at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Jones gage and notice is provided to the State Water Board as noted below.  The October minimum flow requirement for the Scott River is 40 cubic feet per second (cfs). As of 2:30 pm today flow at the USGS Fort Jones gage was 37.5 cfs.  Accordingly, all diversions except for those associated with limited exceptions (e.g., minimum human health and safety) are prohibited.

Current forecasts for Scott Valley show a chance for precipitation this weekend, which may result in increased flows. As described in Addendum 2 of the Scott River curtailment orders, groundwater diversions may resume only when:

  • Flows can be sustained above 40 cfs during the month of October at the USGS Fort Jones gage with such diversion; and

Approved Exceptions:  The only diversions that may continue to divert at this time are those with an exception for: human health and safety; non-consumptive use; minimum livestock-watering purposes; or an approved or pending Local Cooperative Solution.  (see the Drought Emergency Regulation for more information).

Please monitor your email and our Scott River and Shasta River Watersheds Drought Response website (https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/drought/scott_shasta_rivers/) for future updates.  If an email notice is issued on the weekend, the website will not be updated until the following Monday due to service limitations.
