Exciting News from Maven’s Notebook!

Dear readers,

I wanted to share some exciting news with you.

I was just awarded The Harold Gilliam Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting from The Bay Institute at their 26th Annual awards ceremony held June 28, 2018 in Sausalito, CA!

I received one of three “Bay Hero” awards given to California environmental leaders for our work on water, wetlands, public policy, and related issues.

This is what The Bay Institute said of the awards:

“Each of these individuals (awarded) is exemplary in his or her own way: a leader in the fight for environmental justice and the protection of our wetlands; an economist who has debunked myths about the conflict between the economy and the environment; a blogger who has demystified the confusing and complex world of California water,”commented Gary Bobker, Program Director of The Bay Institute.

I like that: “… a blogger who has demystified the confusing and complex world of California water”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Demystifying California water policy is my life’s work, and it’s an honor to be recognized for it by one of California’s leading institutions. (The prestigious Bay Institute is a research, education, and advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the estuary’s tributary rivers, streams, and watersheds.)

Here’s the thing: I share this award with people like you, because without your financial support, Maven’s Notebook couldn’t exist.

Maven’s Notebook is not funded by large grants or an endowment. Reader donations and sponsorships have underwritten my deep dive into California water policy for over 5 years.

In fact, Maven’s Notebook is pure, reader-supported journalism. Because people like you fund my work, I am free to report the facts without spin or bias. I’m not beholden to any special interest group or agenda.

And there’s nothing more important than quality, factual information to educate opinions, make decisions, and shape public policy.

Your tax-deductible support is the key to getting up-to-the minute, breaking news, and in-depth, unbiased reporting on California’s complex water issues. Would you consider keeping this award-winning work going with your tax-deductible donation?

It only takes a minute to donate securely online at www.MavensNotebook.com/donate.

Every dollar helps Maven’s Notebook keep publishing. And while no donation is too small, by donating $100 (or $10/month), you’ll also receive two important additional benefits:

1. A one-year subscription to Maven’s Weekly Water Blast, direct to your inbox every Monday morning. Exclusively for donors and sponsors, each Monday we take a look at what’s coming in the week ahead, last week’s more popular content, and occasional “insider” content not published on the website.

2. Unlimited access and download privileges to the new California Water Library website, an expertly-curated and constantly updated “reservoir” of the most authoritative documents from federal, state, and local governments, non-profit organizations, and more. You can even set email alerts so you know when new content you’re interested in is uploaded.

I love my work. Thank you so much for making it possible!

Sincerely,

Chris Austin
