Water quality based effluent limits (WQBEL)

Water quality based effluent limits (WQBEL) are used when more stringent limits than TBELs are needed to protect designated uses.  WQBELs place limits on the discharges of pollutants in the effluent that are calculated to ensure water quality standards are met in the receiving waterbodies.
