Secondary wastewater treatment follows the primary wastewater treatment process and involves the biological process of reducing suspended, colloidal, and dissolved organic matter in effluent.  Secondary wastewater treatment may be accomplished by biological or chemical-physical methods, such as activated sludge and trickling filters.
