SCIENCE IN SHORT: Finding Her Way to Fish

Denise Colombano is investigating how climate change could impact future habitat suitability and fish communities in the San Francisco Estuary.

She wasn’t always hooked on fish says Colombano, a Delta Science Fellow and post-doc at UC Berkeley. In fact she had failed ninth grade when a science teacher got her out in the field birdwatching. “I got completely into it,” she says.

In this 19-minute Science-in-Short interview with Estuary News Group’s Kathleen M. Wong, Colombano shares her “one estuary, one science” perspective, describes the Shiny app her group is developing that will allow users to see how different estuarine organisms respond under different climate change scenarios, and reflects on the ups and downs of her career.
