Photoblog: The Owens Lake Dust Control Project: The ultimate human-managed landscape

Owens-Lake-dust-control-project-153The Owens Lake Dust Control Project.  It’s hard to imagine there’s any place more surreal then this place – in a Mad Max infrastructure sort of way.  The Department of Water and Power has spent over a billion dollars cleaning up the dust here in this remote valley.  It’s a war against geologic forces that perhaps may never be won.

In the spring of 2012, I spent a considerable amount of time photographing the dust control project and the surrounding area for a slideshow I had planned to do, but as sometimes is the case, other work (read paying work) came along.  Then the flurry of lawsuits … I might try and finish it one of these days, now that the Owens Lake Master Plan process seems to be picking up again, but I make no promises.  Too much going on in the Delta right now.

In the meantime, I’ll post these links here as I have noticed several people have been searching this site for my work on the dust control project, and I wanted to be sure they could find them.
