REMINDER: DWR SB552 Drought Planning: Draft for Public Comments: County Drought Plan Guidance for Domestic Wells and State Small Water Systems

In September 2021, Senate Bill 552 (SB 552) was signed by Governor Newsom and enacted into law. SB 552 includes new responsibilities and requirements at both the state and local level to help small water systems and rural communities reduce their risk of inadequate water supply amid a water shortage event.

DWR, in coordination with a County Workgroup, State Water Board and California Office of Emergency Services, has released a draft guidebook to support the preparation of County Drought Resilience Plans which focus on state small water systems and domestic wells as required under SB 552. INTENDED AUDIENCE: County Office of Emergency Services, County Environmental Health Programs, County Planners, and other interested parties.

HOW TO SUBMIT PUBLIC COMMENTS: The draft guidebook is available for public comment until January 20, 2023. Please send all comments to droughtrisk@water.ca.gov.
