NOTICE: Updated Sacramento Water Allocation Model Available

From the State Water Resources Control Board:

This message is to advise interested parties that the State Water Resources Control Board (Board) has posted an updated version of its baseline Sacramento Water Allocation Model (SacWAM) on the Board’s file transfer protocol (FTP) site.  The model is planned to be used in habitat analyses of potential voluntary agreements related to updates to the Bay-Delta Water Quality Control Plan (Bay-Delta Plan) for the Sacramento River and its tributaries and the Delta and its tributaries. As necessary, some components of the SacWAM baseline may be refined for the purposes of the more detailed environmental impact analyses of potential updates to the Bay-Delta Plan pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act.

The model can be accessed by visiting ftp.waterboards.ca.gov in a web browser or FTP client, and entering username “baydelta-public” and password “4WE3IG”.  Also included on the FTP site is an updated version of the Department of Water Resources’ CalSim II baseline model that provides a point of comparison with the SacWAM baseline. The State Water Board has also developed a spreadsheet tool that can be used to compare SacWAM and CalSim II modeling results available on the same FTP site.

The updated version of SacWAM requires the 2019.2 release of the WEAP software, which may be downloaded from http://www.weap21.org/download. The XA solver is now included with WEAP, and free for everyone to use until 15 July 2020.

Questions related to SacWAM can be directed to Matthew Holland at matthew.holland@waterboards.ca.gov or Scott Ligare at scott.ligare@waterboards.ca.gov.

Questions related to CalSim II can be directed to Aaron Miller at aaron.miller@water.ca.gov or John Leahigh at john.leahigh@water.ca.gov.

Additional information related to the Board’s efforts to update the Bay-Delta Plan, including information on SacWAM is available at: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/waterrights/water_issues/programs/bay_delta/.
