SAN JOAQUIN RIVER RESTORATION PROGRAM: Recapture of San Joaquin River Restoration Flows continues for Friant Division farmers

From the San Joaquin River Restoration Program:

The Bureau of Reclamation has signed a finding of no significant impact for the San Joaquin River Restoration Program’s plan to recapture a portion of the 2019 San Joaquin River Restoration Flows at Patterson and/or Banta-Carbona irrigation districts though Feb. 29, 2020.

The project involves recapturing Restoration Flows and conveying them via the Delta-Mendota Canal to San Luis Reservoir for recirculation to the Friant Division long-term contractors. Both districts have screened pumping plants on the San Joaquin River and a 40 cubic feet per second and 95 cfs connection respectively, up to the Delta-Mendota Canal. The amount of recaptured flows will depend on hydrologic conditions and availability of Restoration Flows, as well as recapture and conveyance capacity, but is estimated up to 76,069 acre-feet during the recapture period.

Because no changes have occurred that would result in additional or more substantial impacts from what was analyzed in the 2016 Environmental Assessment for the project, Reclamation is proposing to continue implementing the proposed action during Water Year 2019.
