State legislators send letter to State Water Board, urging them to reject any proposals that would eliminate water allocations for the agricultural industry

letter mailboxA bipartisan group of state legislators led by Assemblyman Dan Logue has sent a letter to Felicia Marcus, Chair of the State Water Board, expressing their concerns over potential actions the water board might be taking at the upcoming March 12 meeting regarding water allocation for agriculture.

We need to keep agriculture interests at a high priority when making decisions that impact California,” the letter states.  “Agriculture is the backbone of California’s economy, and we need to take great care not to create unnecessary and perhaps irreparable harm to farmers and ranchers.”

We strongly encourage you to reject any proposals that would remove agriculture from the definition of health and safety,” the legislators say.  They also urge the water board to postpone any action until April1 to allow interested parties to provide input and due consideration.

We urge you to seek a fair solution that achieves consensus of all stakeholders, and protects the interests of agriculture in this state,” the letter concludes.

Joining Assemblyman Logue on the letter are Assemblymembers Kristin Olsen, Marie Waldron, Katcho Achadjian, Jeff Gorrell, Shannon Grove, Donald Wagner, Travis Allen, Connie Conway, Eric Linder, Frank Bigelow, Curt Hagman, Brian Dahle, Jim Patterson, Mike Morrell and Ken Cooley, as well as Senators Tom Berryhill and Anthony Vidak.
