Letter: Congressmembers McCarthy, Nunes and Valadao write Senator Feinstein, asking her how she intends to address the drought

letter mailboxCongressmembers Kevin McCarthy, Devin Nunes, and David Valadao have sent a letter to Senator Feinstein, asking her just how she is intending to address the drought situation.

It is dry conditions as well as federal and state regulations that have reduced water supplies, they say, and they point out that several members of Congress have already proposed legislative fixes, including HR 1837, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley Water Reliability Act, which passed the house in 2012 but went no further.

It is not clear to us what your solution is to this pressing problem.  Therefore it’s urgent that you meet with us to discuss any legislative proposals you may have that would alleviate the water crisis, so we can begin working to get them approved in the House of Representatives,” they write.

The legislators say they want to address this issue using the next available legislative bill that’s advancing in Congress.  “While we appreciate your call to appoint a “federal drought task force” and a “federal drought coordinator,” Congress itself has the authority, the ability, and the duty to help Californians over come this crisis.”
